Description
In this essay type, causes and effects are concerned. The causes are why things are happening (reasons), whereas the effects are the results for the causes.
Example: Causes for failing an exam (did not study enough, did not have all of the material needed to study, skipped several classes, etc).

Common Cause & Effect Essay Structure
Cause & Effect essays are typically five paragraphs and follow the following format:
Introduction Paragraph: includes the thesis statement/causes and effects to be explored in the essay
Body Paragraph 1: includes support/evidence of the thesis statement/first cause/effect
Body Paragraph 2: includes support/evidence of the thesis statement/second cause/effect
Body Paragraph 3: includes support/evidence of the thesis statement/third cause/effect
Concluding Paragraph: reiterates the thesis statements but not in the exact same words; new information is never added to this paragraph
