In this essay type, a story is told. Narrative essays almost always rely on personal experience and usually use first person. They include a lot of details, especially sensory details, to create vivid images for the readers.
Common Narrative Essay Structure
If a narrative essay is written as story, which they usually are, all aspects of the story needs to be included, such as the introduction, characters, plot, climax, setting, and conclusion. Narrative essays are often written in chronological order.
Narrative essays are typically five paragraphs and follow the following format:
Introduction Paragraph: includes the thesis statement/sets the scene
Body Paragraph 1: includes support/evidence of the thesis statement
Body Paragraph 2: includes support/evidence of the thesis statement
Body Paragraph 3: includes support/evidence of the thesis statement
Concluding Paragraph: reiterates the thesis statements but not in the exact same words; new information is never added to this paragraph
